What kind of children’s book do pirates like best? One with lots of arrrrrrrrrrrrrrt. That was a terrible, terrible joke. I realize that. And I apologize. However, it is almost Talk Like a Pirate Day, and I was thinking about all the amazing schools we have visited with our book A Pirate’s Quest (for his family heirloom peg leg). The book features over 40 original oil paintings from artist Heiner Hertling, and so yes, there is a lot of original arrrrrrrrrrrrrrt.

We have had so many schools dress up like pirates for our author visits . . . and in one school this year, the art teacher made black pirate hats for every student who didn’t have his/her own pirate outfit from home.  (It is amazing how many kids have their own pirate-themed outfits at home). That same school decorated their halls with posters like “First Graders Treasure Good Books” and “We Be Jolly Readers.”

Our book A Pirate’s Quest is really a story about never giving up. Yes, the pirate loses his family heirloom peg leg. But guess what? He finds it!!!! We thank all the students and schools around the country who have embraced our pirate’s journey from the lakes to the rivers to the sea, to finally find what he has so desperately been searching for . . . .

I also thank the librarian who decorated this door to welcome us to her school. Thank you, thank you, thank you. — From the one-legged pirate’s two-legged sister, Laura Sams, also known as the “Sis” of Sisbro Studios
